Ethics&Malpractice

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Universal Journal of Mathematical Sciences (UJMS) strictly adheres to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. All participants—authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers—are bound by these ethical standards.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Duties of Editors

The Editor-in-Chief of the Universal Journal of Mathematical Sciences (UJMS) holds final responsibility for determining which submitted manuscripts are accepted for publication. Editorial decisions are guided by:

  • The journal's scientific and ethical policies,
  • Rigorous peer-review standards, and
  • Compliance with legal obligations, including those pertaining to libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

Editorial Rights & Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Control: Editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that fail to meet the journal's academic, technical, or ethical standards.
  2. Manuscript Editing: Minor stylistic, grammatical, or formatting adjustments may be applied to enhance clarity without altering scientific content.
  3. Timely Communication: Authors will receive a preliminary decision (acceptance, revision, or rejection) within 3–6 months of submission, contingent upon reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

Confidentiality

Manuscript contents must remain strictly confidential and shall not be exploited for personal advantage. Editors and staff must safeguard reviewer anonymity at all stages of evaluation to uphold the integrity of the peer-review process.

  • Duties of Authors
  1. Originality & Exclusivity: Authors warrant that submissions are original, unpublished works not under consideration elsewhere. Parallel submission constitutes misconduct and will result in elimination from consideration.
  2. Post-Publication Restrictions: After publication in UJMS, the manuscript may not be published elsewhere in any language without the publisher's written consent (excluding self-archiving per journal policy).
  3. Withdrawal Policy: Authors withdrawing manuscripts post-peer-review assessment shall reimburse the journal's review costs.
  4. Authorship Integrity: All contributors must meet ICMJE authorship criteria. Author name changes post-peer-review are prohibited.
  5. Ethical Accountability: Authors are responsible for adhering to ethical standards, including disclosure of funding sources, conflicts of interest, and methodological limitations.
  6. Reproducibility: Source code, datasets, and mathematical proofs must be retained for verification (available upon request).
  7. Formatting Compliance: Manuscripts must follow journal preparation guidelines. Non-compliant submissions will be returned.
  • Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers for the Universal Journal of Mathematical Sciences (UJMS) are entrusted with upholding the journal's commitment to mathematical excellence. Their role encompasses three core responsibilities: rigorous evaluation, ethical oversight, and professional accountability.

  1. Rigorous Evaluation: Reviewers must provide thorough, objective, and timely assessments of submitted manuscripts. This involves scrutinizing the mathematical rigor of proofs, theorems, and computational methods to ensure logical validity. Evaluations should address the work's originality, particularly its contribution to advancing theoretical frameworks or applied mathematical solutions. Additionally, reviewers are expected to assess the clarity of presentation, including the precision of notation and adherence to established mathematical conventions.
  2. Ethical Oversight: Reviewers serve as guardians of academic integrity. They must identify and report any suspected ethical violations, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or improper attribution of prior work. Special attention should be given to uncited foundational literature and overlaps with published or concurrently submitted manuscripts. Reviewers are obligated to maintain strict confidentiality, refraining from sharing or discussing the manuscript without explicit authorization from the editorial office.
  3. Professional Accountability: To ensure fairness and efficiency, reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest, including personal or professional relationships with the authors. If a reviewer lacks the expertise to evaluate a manuscript or cannot meet the review deadline, they should promptly notify the editorial team to avoid delays in the peer-review process.
  4. Timeline: UJMS relies on timely feedback to maintain its publication schedule. Reviewers are typically expected to complete their evaluations within 4–6 weeks of manuscript assignment.
